Konami's profits are increasingly higher

The years follow one another and look alike for Konami, who manages to display increasingly flattering accounts while giving the impression of doing less and less.

The Konami miracle was still held this year. Absent from the debates of the AAA game for years and snubbed by nostalgic, the Japanese publisher displays the best results in its history with a turnover of 2.2 billion euros and above all a frankly impressive operational benefit that stands out 555 million euros.

Let us immediately silence a tenacious received idea: these results, Konami does not owe them to his secondary trades such as the Pachinko/Pachislot, casinos or sports halls. In the fiscal year, these activities have an operational profit of 58 million euros, which is not nothing but remains very far from the video game, which reports 572 million euros over the same period. In fact, if we stick purely to video games, no Japanese publisher does better than Konami today. Including Bandai Namco who, however transfigured by the Elden Ring Cardboard, must be satisfied with an operational profit of 522 million euros.

Konami’s Plan To Win Us Back…

Period Turnover Operational benefit Net profit
April 2020 - March 2021 2.0 billion euros 273.2 million euros 241.1 million euros
April 2021 - March 2022 2.2 billion euros 555.0 million euros 409.7 million euros

Konami's recipe continues to rest on a small number of very profitable mobile games, namely Efootball PES 2021, Yu-Gi-Oh! DUEL LINKS and Professional Baseball Spirits ACE which remains the reference of the genre in Japan. At the same time and always in the Free-to-Play department, Konami met with big success with the global and multiplatform launch of Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, which exceeded 30 million downloads. Efootball 2022 would have liked to be able to say as much, but Konami obviously remains discreet on the performance of the PES successor. Released in November 2019 but still a contributor, the Momotaro Dentetsu of the Switch exceeded 3.5 million copies sold in Japan.

For the new fiscal year, Konami awaits a turnover up 7% (close to 2.4 billion) and an operational profit which would also establish a new record up to 572 million euros. This progression would not be due to video games, the result of which is expected exactly at the same level, but with the other segments which can only go better since the end of the confinements, in particular casinos and sports halls.

On the game side, the exercise will take into account Ebaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2022, which has the potential to make half a million sales in Japan, the Ninja Turtles Mutant Teenage: The Cowabunga Collection, of the Yu-Gi-Oh mobile game! Cross duel and some more secondary titles like CrimeSight as well as the independent games that Konami publishes in his spare time, as a Jail and Cygni lease. For the rest, we are still waiting for these millions to be reinvested in productions that will make you want to take a little Konami.
